Philosophy & Objectives of Medicinal Chemistry

Philosophy
Candidates will prosecute their programmes through coursework and research work. The courses and research work are designed to enable the candidates to specialize in one or more of the available options. The successful students shall be well equipped for careers in industries dealing with quality control, product discovery and development, chemical, and pharmaceutical raw-materials sourcing, and in academic institutions, teaching/research hospitals, quality control/assurance research institutes, research and development (R&D), custom synthesis and analysis.

Core Objectives
1). Production of higher caliber pharmaceutical chemists who are well equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills in analytical techniques required to occupy positions in academics, industrial, governmental, and research organizations in the service of developing national economy;
2). Probing of Nigeria’s natural resources in order to accumulate relevant physical and chemical data;
3). Embarking on interdisciplinary collaborative efforts with other scientists in the biomedical, natural, and physical sciences in the bid to developing and characterizing novel lead pharmaceutical compounds
