The Faculty Of Pharmaceutical Sciences,Nnamdi Azikiwe University came into existence in the 2006/2007 academic session following the committee of Deans recommendation and approval by the University Council in May 2006.
The courage of Pharm Dr Ifeanyi .E. Okoye mni and the visionary ledership of Prof Ilochi Okafor(SAN),the then Vice Chancellor remain the two most important factors that made this dream of establishing the second Pharmacy School,East of the Niger a present reality.
Pharm. Dr Ifeanyi Okoye (the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Juhel Nigeria Ltd)and his wife,Pharm.Dr Amaka Okoye single-handedly endowed the Faculty building and encouraged other benevolent Agulu indigenes (including Chief & Lolo Aniagboso,Sir Franklin Anazodo,Sir Ejike Imoka and Sam Egenti)to endow on Departmental building each to the faculty.
Thereafter, the University, under the distinguished leadership of Professor Boniface CE Egboka,FAS,has invested substancially in order to consolidate the Pharmacy School Project.These include about N80m frrom the Education Trust Fund(ETF) invested in equipment procurement,an electricity transformer,a 350KVA generator,water borehole,furnishing of staff offices and furnishing seven laboratories for research and teaching.

 

SOME IMPORTANT EVENTS/DATES

Saturday, May 13, 2006: The site for the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, donated by the Mbanese Ntumala/Nneagu land owners via Agulu Peoples’ Union, was inspected and taken over by the University.

May 2006: Recommendation for the commencement of the Faculty by the UNIZIK Committee of Deans.

May 2006: Approval of the commencement of the Faculty by UNIZIK Governing Council.

Wednesday, September 20, 2006: Assumption of duty by the pioneer staff of the Faculty (Dr I.C. Uzochukwu).

Friday, December 1, 2006: The matriculation of the 26 pioneer students of the Faculty.

Saturday, May 26, 2007: The foundation stone laying ceremony of the Faculty building was performed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ilochi Okafor (SAN).

Wednesday, November 7, 2007: The Senate Nnamdi Azikiwe University approved Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) curriculum.

Wednesday, November 21, 2007: Ten temporary offices allocated to the Faculty at the Science Village, Awka Campus.

Monday, December 3rd 2007: The first four lecturers (after the pioneer staff, Dr.I.C. Uzochukwu) namely Pharm. G.U. Okafor, Pharm.C.P. Ihekwereme, Pharm A.C. Agbata and Rev. Pharm Dr. S. Uzodinma assumed duty with the Faculty.

Tuesday, 4th and Wednesday, 5th December, 2007: The National Universities Commission (NUC) visited the Faculty for a Resource Verification Exercise.

Friday, 25th January, 2008: Pioneer Laboratory Technologist (Mr. Victor Nnamdi Orji) was appointed for the Faculty.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008: National Universities Commission sends an approval letter for the undergraduate programme in Pharmacy.

Monday, May 5th, 2008: Four other academic Staff (Mr. A.F. Onyegbule, Pharm I.T. Nzekwe, Pharm Sir Fred Anowi and Dr (Mrs) U.A. Utoh- Nedosa) and four technologists (Miss Ifeyinwa Okafo, Ms Anthonia Oduche, Mrs Umeokoli Blessing and Mrs Blessing Ikeh) were employed for the Faculty.

Monday, 23th to Sunday, 29 June 2008: The inaugural Pharmacy Week was held.

Sunday, September, 28th, 2008: The Agulu community organized a successful launching in support of the Pharmacy School project.

Thursday, October 23rd 2008: Professor C.O. Esimone assumes duty as adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Thursday, February 26th, 2009: Appointment of nine Visiting Professors in Diaspora for the Faculty.

Wednesday, June 17th 2009: The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University approved post graduate programmes in all six departments.

Monday, August 17th, 2009: The Faculty relocated to its permanent site at Agulu Campus.

Friday, October 2nd 2009: Prof. C.O. Esimone appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty

Wednesday, December 2nd-3rd 2009: NUC team came to the Faculty for a pre-accreditation visit.

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010: Prof. C.O. Esimone elected substantive Dean of the Faculty.

Sunday, February 28th to Monday, March 1st, 2010: Pharmacists’ Council of Nigeria came for an advisory visited to the Faculty.

Sunday, June 6th to Wednesday, June 9th, 2010: NUC team came to the Faculty for an accreditation exercise.

Friday, September 17th, 2010: Interim accreditation status granted to the Faculty by the NUC.

Sunday, October 24th to Thursday, 28th, 2010: Pharmacists’ Council of Nigeria came to the Faculty for an accreditation exercise.

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010: Interim accreditation status granted to the Faculty by the Pharmacists’ Council of Nigeria.

February, 2011: Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University was approved as a centre for Mandatory Continuing Pharmacists Development (MCPD) programme by Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

Thursday, September 29th, 2011: Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University was approved as a centre for Internship training by Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

Monday, November 21st, 2011: Maiden Induction/Oath taking of pioneer Pharmacy Graduates.

2012: The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University approved Masters degree in Forensic Science in collaboration with Nebraska Institute of Forensic Science, USA.

Friday, April 20th, 2012: Pioneer Faculty Masters Graduate- Ikegbunam Moses (Pharmaceutical microbiology and Biotechnology) defended his thesis.

Friday, February 28th, 2014: Pioneer Faculty PhD Graduate-Dr Chibueze Ihekwereme (Pharmacology and Toxicology) defended his thesis.

Friday, June 13th, 2014: Dr Uzochukwu Ikemefuna C (Pioneer Coordinator) was appointed the Ag. Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Thursday, October 9th, 2014: First Faculty Research Fair/Luncheon

Wednesday, March 18th, 2015: Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University was approved (provisional) as a centre for Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Orientation Programme (FPGOP) by Pharmacists council of Nigeria.
